Thomas Beijer

pianist, composer, author and illustrator

Thomas Beijer (Haarlem, 1988) was recognized early on as one of the most prominent and interesting musicians in his home country.

Besides playing solo recitals and piano concertos, Thomas Beijer is passionate chamber musician, performing with a.o. cellist Quirine Viersen, violinist Simone Lamsma and singers such as Judith van Wanroij, Barbara Kozelj and Laetitia Gerards. He is a regular guest of Camerata RCO, consisting of musicians of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

In February 2022, Beijer was awarded the Nederlandse Muziekprijs , the highest award for Dutch classical musicians, on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. The jury calls Thomas Beijer an 'uomo universale’ and praises his excellent technique and his unique art of storytelling.

Highlights of season 2022-2023 will be several performances as ‘spotlight-artist’ in The Royal Concertgebouw, including a recital in the Main Hall in the new international series ‘Great Pianists’.

As well as a performer, Thomas Beijer is a composer. In the summer of 2022, his newest composition Concerto in Technicolor for jazz violin and orchestra will be premiered by Julia Philippens and the North Netherlands Orchestra conducted by Clark Rundell.

Thomas Beijer made recordings with works by a.o. Albéniz, Falla, Granados, Mozart, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Ravel, Rudolf Escher, Frank Martin and Poulenc, as well as his own compositions.

Besides his career as a pianist and a composer, Beijer is a novelist, screenwriter and visual artist. Since 2019 he is the artistic director of the Young Pianist Foundation.
