Luca van der Waals started playing the violin at the age of five in the PIVO class of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Currently, Luca is a student at the School for Young Talent in The Hague, being taught by violin teacher Kerstin Hoelen.
Last January she participated in the Davina van Wely Competition where she played the Weinberg Concertino with the NJSO during the finals. She received the shared second prize.
2021 has been a versatile year for Luca despite corona. She performed a recital during the Grachtenfestival, where she unexpectedly received the Bunschoter Jonger Talent Prize 2021. Following this, she played at Earbites (Radio 4). In the summer she performed in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw and in September at Podium Witteman. Furthermore, Luca was invited by the Prinses Christina Concours to perform in the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague.
Luca is already familiar with the International Chamber Music Festival Wassenaar. During the 12th edition in 2021 she partook with her ensemble in the masterclass for chamber music with cellist Nuala McKenna. Together they played the clarinet quartet by Mozart during the closing concert in the seniors residence Van Ommerenpark.
